About me
I live in Fort Collins, Colorado with my wife and have two grown sons. Whenever I can, I'm either painting or taking pictures. As a self-taught artist/photographer, I give credit to God for giving me my artistic talent and I sign all of my paintings with the letters, SDG (Soli Deo Gloria), which means "glory to God alone".
One of my goals as a photographer is to capture moments most people miss due to the busyness of life. I bought my first camera not long after joining the United States Coast Guard and years later became the expedition photographer aboard the Coast Guard icebreaker, Polar Sea. My travels have taken me around the world, and my family and I have lived in Outer Mongolia for one year.
Teachers, are your students learning about animals in the Polar regions? I would love to come and share my photography and stories to children of all ages. If you would like to know more about my photography and paintings for sale or invite me to speak at your school, I can be reached at: jim.merkley@gmail.com.
